Our Approach

Mission
As an institution, we strive to bring support directly to our beneficiaries in their own environment. We work to incorporate innovative methodologies that allow the people we serve to participate in the process and generate improvement processes for themselves. Our work focuses on decreasing the social risks faced by children, young workers, and their families in the markets and on the streets of Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela. We work to bring health and educational services to this vulnerable population and to offer them alternatives through our programs and activities that focus on their current needs. We place emphasis on prevention, education, social integration, and human rights. We are committed to sustainability and work to promote our beneficiaries ability to be active participants in their own communities.  We work towards our goals with the help of dynamic professionals who are committed to the development of Honduras.

Objectives
  • To develop an alternative model of primary care services with comprehensive health care for children and workers in the informal sector of the markets in Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela, as well as for abandoned street children in the city.
  • To ensure compliance with the rights and protection of these Honduran children.
  • To contribute to the academic advancement of children who have been held back due to limited financial resources and have struggled with repeating grade levels or had to drop out of school.
  • To promote the development of leadership skills among youth we work with so that they may become active participants in their communities and can serve as agents of their own development.
To achieve our various objectives we have developed numerous programs with more narrow focuses. To learn more about our specific projects please see the Programs page.

Methodology
Our methodology can be summarized by 3 key principles:
  1. Knowledge of the community and engagement: We work directly with the communities based on an extensive knowledge of the population we serve. Our goal is to utilize forms of grassroots participatory education and to engage our beneficiaries so that the process is one of sharing and not one where people come to instruct and impose top-down solutions.
  2. Flexibility: We work towards adaptability and sustainability in all our programs. We strive to always take into account the current situation and context of the reality facing our beneficiaries in order to generate productive and formative processes.
  3. Monitoring and Evaluation: To understand the advances we have made and to identify areas where change is necessary, we have developed systematic means of monitoring and evaluating our programs so that we may constantly improve.
